Verbal Behaviour
Verbal Behaviour is the application of language to the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Scientific research has overwhelmingly supported the use of Verbal Behaviour techniques for a range of conditions, including:
- helping a stroke patient regain their speech;
- empowering an aggressive child so that they can use language, instead of violent outbursts, to control their environment;
- helping a person with a developmental delay or autism to communicate effectively.
A person with any one of these struggles or conditions invariably feels frustrated and angry by their inability to speak and communicate effectively. This then triggers inappropriate or unhealthy behaviours, including aggression, violence, self harm and withdrawal. All of these behaviours can also be eliminated as part of the programme.
